We make the stuff you wish you made.

Sparkshape wants to work with the kind of folks that aren’t afraid to try something new in order to make something great. We want to give a platform to this industry’s most loyal and hard working people. The plan is to surround ourselves with good humans (and dogs) who are looking to move the entire team upward. The only way to make a successful film, is by having fun. We vow to tell genre bending stories with unconventional characters. If you got a weird thing with a wild heart, we want to help make it.

Emily
Shaffer

Co-Founder / Producer / Actor

Emily is an actor, producer and creative based in NYC. She has spent the entirety of her life with a project on deck; sewing, a sculpting endeavor, a new bake she wants to try, nail art, Halloween costumes, painting, sketching, dance choreography, needle point...the list is endless. And while there is no doubt she gets the utmost fulfillment and joy from the creation itself, most of this list is aimed at giving love to dear ones through Art.  Emily is a New Yorker through and through but she’s not not a little southern. She grew up in West Virginia in a home that only ever championed her sensibilities. Dance was her first love with a childhood spent at the studio in multiple dance companies. Country roads lead her just a bit north to WVU. She studied theater and met a cute guy named Vance on day one. She left Morgantown four years later with the aforementioned cute guy as well as a BFA in Acting and minor in dance. Moving to New York was a no brainer. Her career has mostly been on television including credits from: "FBI" (CBS), "The Good Fight" (CBS), "Law & Order SVU" (NBC), “Blue Bloods” (CBS), “How To Make It In America” (HBO) & "Chicago Med" (NBC). Emily is persistent and determined to a fault (for her own sake and for those she loves). Calling NYC home for so long, she built a community of actors and hustlers in "the biz" -- a long list of people she wanted to see succeed. Emily and her husband Vance launched Sparkshape in 2022 with a clear vision to build teams of creatives they couldn't wait to work with to tell beautiful, weird and real stories. This dream became reality in the process of getting their debut film “WRENCH” off the ground. Emily and Vance balance it all in Queens where they thoroughly enjoy each other’s company and can be seen fawning over their dog Margot at all times.

Vance
Barber

Co-Founder / Producer / Writer

Vance Barber has been helping other people make stuff his entire adult life. After spending his college years at WVU writing and putting up several plays at main stages and cinderblock theaters, he traveled to New York and wanted to surround himself with creative people. From 2009-2016, he co-hosted and was in charge of talent booking for an indie music podcast called Ear Candy. For a year, he operated the theater and comedy club at The Creek and The Cave. Since 2012, Vance has worked independently as an on-camera acting coach under the mentorship, guidance and care of Bob Krakower. He has taught ongoing classes at NYU Tisch, The Scott Freeman Studio, One on One NYC, the WVU Grad Program and is currently exclusively teaching and coaching with The Bob Krakower Gang. Vance’s students were in fact the individuals that inspired and gave him the courage to get back to putting his art out into the world; within a year, he wrote and shot his first short and sold his first feature length script. Soon after, Vance and his wife (yes they’ve been together since college and yes she is way out of his league) started Sparkshape and he is the luckiest man on planet earth.
